At ANPPCAN-SOM, we believe in building peaceful and united Somali communities. On July 28, 2024, a community outreach session was conducted in Hudur-Tubboy as part of the PROSPER-SOCO project, made possible by the Global Community Engagement and Resilience Fund. This project aimed at enhancing peace, reconciliation, and social cohesion in Baidoa and Hudur Districts.
Objective and Focus:
Our outreach session lasted for a day to strengthen the roles and functions of local peace committees. We had a target of 30 participants who would provide necessary skills and knowledge to participants for managing reconciliation and reintegration processes effectively. It had two key objectives:
Enhance Capacity: Empowering the existing peace committees to deal with conflicts, therefore assuring a congenial atmosphere within the community.
Information Sharing: Informing participants about key roles and functions of peace committees in the process of reconciliation and reintegration. Interactive Learning and Practical Tools.
In order to ensure that participants would be in a position to fully understand and make use of the ideas presented, we integrated a number of interactive methodologies as follows:
Group Discussions: These open kinds of discussions set a platform for the sharing of experiences and views, hence enhancing a learning environment characterized by collaboration.
Conflict Mapping: There will be tools provided for participants to start making a sense of the sources and levels of these local conflicts, leading to strategic issue resolution.
Role-Play: Participants will gain first-hand experience in trying out conflict resolution, negotiation, and mediation skills.
Action Planning: Participants will be guided through a process to work out action plans to deal with specified community conflicts.
Expected Outcomes
The expected outputs from our outreach are:
Reconciliations and Reintegration: Strengthened peace committee capacities to handle reconciliation and reintegration efforts within the Hudur-Tubboy community.
Improved effectiveness of peace committees hence high community trust and cohesion.
Peace Committees with greater achievements: Equipped with enriched skills and knowledge, peace committees could do more in the accomplishment of their objectives to the general peacebuilding efforts of the region.
Conclusion
The outreach session in Hudur-Tubboy displays how ANPPCAN-SOM lays a foundation for peace and resilient communities among the Somali population. We can build a more harmonious and unified future by empowering peace committees with necessary tools and knowledge.
GCERF is highly appreciated for support extended to the cause; all the participants spare their time and energy in this great cause. We have so far made enormous steps toward a peaceful, cohesive Somalia.
