Peer2Peer Child Protectors Training in Mogadishu

By ANPPCANSOM

From July 15th to 17th, 2024, ANPPCANSOM hosted a transformative training session in Mogadishu, focused on establishing and training Peer2Peer Child Protectors. This significant event marked a crucial step towards enhancing child rights and participation in the region.

A Commitment to Child Protection

ANPPCANSOM’s commitment to child protection is unwavering. The training session aimed to empower children and young people by equipping them with the knowledge and skills needed to advocate for their rights and participate actively in their communities. This initiative is part of a broader effort to create a safer, more inclusive environment for all children in Somalia.

The Training Experience

The three-day event was packed with insightful sessions, interactive activities, and collaborative discussions. Here are some of the highlights:

  1. Understanding Child Rights: Participants delved into the fundamentals of child rights, exploring international conventions, national laws, and local practices that safeguard children. The sessions emphasized the importance of recognizing and upholding these rights in everyday situations.
  2. Building Peer Networks: One of the key objectives of the training was to establish a robust network of Peer2Peer Child Protectors. By fostering connections among participants, ANPPCANSOM aims to create a support system that empowers children to advocate for their peers effectively.
  3. Engaging Activities: The training included various engaging activities designed to enhance understanding and retention of the concepts discussed. Role-playing, group discussions, and creative workshops allowed participants to practice and apply what they learned in real-life scenarios.
  4. Encouraging Participation: Emphasis was placed on the importance of child participation. Children were encouraged to voice their opinions, share their experiences, and actively contribute to the discussions. This participatory approach not only boosted their confidence but also highlighted the value of their perspectives.

Impact and Future Plans

The impact of this training session extends beyond the three days in Mogadishu. By empowering children with the knowledge and skills to protect their rights and those of their peers, ANPPCANSOM is laying the groundwork for a more resilient and proactive community. The newly established Peer2Peer Child Protectors will play a pivotal role in advocating for child rights and fostering a culture of participation and protection.

Looking ahead, ANPPCANSOM plans to continue supporting these young advocates through follow-up sessions, additional training opportunities, and ongoing mentorship. The goal is to ensure that the Peer2Peer Child Protectors remain active, engaged, and effective in their roles.

Conclusion

The establishment and training of Peer2Peer Child Protectors in Mogadishu is a testament to ANPPCANSOM’s dedication to creating a safer and more inclusive environment for children. By empowering young individuals to advocate for their rights and those of their peers, we are taking significant strides towards a brighter future for all children in Somalia.
