Empowerment of the most vulnerable members of our society is within the core values of ANPPCAN-SOM. Between June 29th and 30th, 2024, we held Social and Economic Empowerment Training Workshops in Baidoa town, targeting 60 small-scale businesswomen and persons with disabilities. Participating persons were PWDs. The purpose of this intervention was to enhance their business capacity and offer them financial support in terms of small grants, divided into two batches of 30 participants each.
Objectives of the Workshops
Listed below are some clear and powerful objectives for our workshops:
Our workshop was interactive and practical to ensure that participants could apply the skills immediately.
Activities included:
Training in Communication Skills: Practical activities on how to communicate effectively with customers
Business Management Sessions: Basic business practices such as marketing, financial management, and sales techniques
Teamwork Exercises: Workshops for developing teamwork and interpersonal skills
Data Entry Workshops: Train them in data entry or record-keeping for businesses necessary for monitoring the growth of the business and in choosing strategic decisions.
Results Expected
The expected output from such workshops is immense:
Improved Socio-Economic Conditions: Through improved business skills and financial support, we aim to improve their economic stability and livelihoods.
Increased Inclusion: Empowering women and PWDs is undoubtedly a surefire way of integrating them into the community’s economic fabric, thereby driving inclusivity and equality.
Reduced Appeal of Extremist Ideologies: Clearly, then, by improving socio-economic conditions and providing real economic opportunity, we can start to reduce the attraction of extremist groups and ideologies that often offer an alternative.
Conclusion
The Social and Economic Empowerment Training Workshops take place in Baidoa. This does much to brand ANPPCAN-SOM as an organization building resilient communities. Equipping women and PWDs with business skills and financial support means growing the economy and social cohesion.
We wish to extend our sincerest gratitude to all willing participants who showed interest and commitment, and to our sponsoring well-wishers who made this initiative possible. We’re all in this together for a better, more inclusive future.
