ANPPCANSOM approaches child survival through the provision of child health-related support domains as follows:
More than 9 million people are affected by prevalent poor WASH conditions in Somalia due to multiple changes. According to results of the WASH KAP survey in 2015, access to piped water stands at 35% nationally; whereas, access to improved water sources stands at 55% nationally. Most striking is the trends in water access indicating that WASH interventions have failed over the years to translate into concrete and sustainable improvements in access to safe and improved water sources. Water quality is also very poor; mostly contaminated at the point of collection and point of use. Awareness and use of water treatment options is also very low. Access to toilets, hand-washing facilities and WASH related practices are very low. Less than half 34% have access to sanitation facilities; whereas less than 44% has a general hand washing facility. Although 44% of the households have a handwashing facility only 10% of them have water and soap whilst 4% have a combination of water, soap and drainage. Water-related diseases and outbreaks of AWD and Cholera due to poor sanitation are worsening already dire state of malnutrition in the country. This is having an effect on the women, boys and girls. As result, ANPPCAN notes necessity for urgent and timely scaling up and improvement of access to inclusive, sustainable safe and gender-sensitive water, hygiene & sanitation (WASH) services in order to prevent extreme health-threats and nutrition outcomes, including high rate of mortality and morbidity of children, especially under-five children.
Our interventions will be intended through the following strategies;
